Gorbachevskaya. [Electroencephalogram of children with syndromal forms of mental pathology]

Abstract:
Authors consider diseases that have certain electroencephalographic features, knowledge of which can help in their diagnosis. These diseases include: the syndrome of mental retardation, linked to breaking of the X chromosome (Fragile X syndrome, FXS), Rett's syndrome and Angelman`s syndrome. Previously, these diseases were the part of large heterogeneous group of "undifferentiated mental retardation", until the genetic causes of their occurrence were discovered. The EEG- type of children with these syndromes practically does not occur among healthy subjects. This is a hypersynchronous type of EEG, in which high-amplitude rhythmic theta-activity dominates.
