Gorbachevskaya. [Age features of electroencephalogram (EEG) of healthy children and adolescents]

Abstract:
Electrophysiological study of children with mental pathology, which is included into the mandatory set of diagnostic procedures, often reduces only to the identification of epileptic activity. However, the EEG itself contains much more information, that is extremely useful for assessing the child condition, matching its EEG to age norms, for diagnosis of syndromal forms of mental pathology, but all this is almost completely ignored in the analysis. This lecture examines main stages of EEG- formation in healthy subjects, aged 3 to 20 years old, and analyzes features of the EEG, associated with gender of subjects and with while-course of puberty. Based on the comparison with regulatory data, here are demonstrated features of the violation of ontogenetic regularities while formation of EEG and presence of pathological EEG phenomena in children with different forms of mental pathology.
