Abstract:
Variousity in meaning decoding particularities between different social groups (on the material of cartoon series) Research describes interpretational differences of American cartoons ("Simpsons", "South Park", "Family Guy") between Russian and American youth. According to the paper, Americans tend to take them up holistically, in the context of everyday life. Russians, at the other side, interpret cartoons from the ethnocentric pint of view: positive moments are acknowledged as universal, negative — as specifically American. In certain cases the story isn't comprehended at all, as viewing motivation comes from the in-group.
