Shavyrina. [The influence of parent-child relationships on the manifestation of negativism and stubbornness in children in older preschool age: dissertation abstract for candidate of psychological Sciences degree]

Abstract:
At seven Moscow kindergartens, longitudinal analytical study of negativism and stubbornness in children of older preschool age was carried out here. Namely, relationship has been established between manifestations of negativism and stubbornness in children (according to their own parents) with the inconsistency of family upbringing, with the parent`s dissatisfaction with the relationship with the child, with a high level of confrontation in the family, with the rejection of the child and the anxiety of the parent. The main provoking factor of these manifestations in children aged 5—6 years is really the frustration by parent of child`s need for respect for him as a person unity. The child defiantly uses negativity and stubbornness as a means to achieve recognition, the importance of his own opinion and satisfaction of needs. The inconsistency of parents in their emotional response to the behavior of child and in requirements for him are the most main factors in reinforcing negativism and stubbornness as a form of interaction between children and adults and the frequency and intensity of their manifestation.
