Svetlova. [The relationship of sports performance and role expectations of junior athletes from the coach: abstract of the dissertation for candidate of psychological sciences degree]

Abstract:
On example of junior fencers, it is shown that the structure of juniors` role expectations from a coach in the process of joint sports and training activities — contains some personal and activity components. The personal component of role expectations includes some motivational-cognitive, moral, volitional and emotional-communicative professionally important qualities of a coach, and the activity component includes the cognitive, emotional and behavioral components of the coach`s activity. Between effectiveness of juniors and the assessment of the emotional component of the activity of both the real and the ideal coach, a positive correlation was revealed, and between the effectiveness and assessments of behavioral component, — a negative one. The activity component of the role expectations from the coach makes a more significant contribution to the performance of a junior athlete than the personal component. The higher the indicators of the emotional, gnostic and cognitive parameters of the juniors` attitude to the coach, the higher they evaluate the activity component and professionally important qualities of the coach`s personality and show less pronounced role expectations.
