Abstract:
Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are a very current problem in the modern age. There exist a wide range of theories regarding the aetiology of ASD: from social explanations to biological ones. This review paper is aimed at introducing the reader to some of the research directions in this field. It describes some of the studies on the following kinds of factors: genetic and prenatal factors, factors, related to the structure and functioning of the nervous and immune systems, as well as gastrointestinal factors.
