Abstract:
From the means of unmistakable perception of speech of others, which for deaf and dumb are writing, — fingerprinting and manoral, only the latter, — contributes to lip reading and purity of pronunciation. The author`s Russian version of manoral system is presented here. It is emphasized, that manoral system in initial teaching of oral speech to deaf and dumb children is hardly appropriate. It is recommended to introduce it not earlier than the end of the preparatory speech course, i.e. in the 2nd or 3rd study year, when children have learned the pronunciation of the sounds of Russian language, when it is necessary to isolate individual sounds in order to correct them, and when children awaken a thirst for enriching their speech reserve in an easy and fast way. The author believes, that his arguments should encourage many deaf teachers, who want to make it easier for pupils to master oral speech through lip reading, to make an honest attempt to check the manoral in their practice, especially since if the experience gives unsatisfactory results, children will not suffer any damage either in relation to reading with the lips, nor with regard to pronunciation.
