Abstract:
The article gives a brief historical overview of the origins and development of achievement goal theory. It presents the analysis of the basic constructs of this theory: avoidance and achievement, valency, needs, motive, mastery and performance. It also introduces major authoritative models of achievement goal theory: dichotonomous, trichotonomous, 2 × 2 and 3 × 2 models. The article examines systematized by Elliot and McGregor orientations in education: mastery approach, performance approach, mastery avoidance, performance avoidance. The article includes the data of pilot research describing the link between personality orientation and orientation in education.
